And in 2007, we packed up our lives, left \u201cnormal\u201d behind, and didn\u2019t look back. That\u2019s how The World Offroad<\/em> was born.<\/strong><\/p>\n With a Land Rover as our trusted steed and a tagline bold enough to make jaws drop\u2014\u201cAround the World in 800 Days\u201d\u2014we set off, fueled by media sponsors and the audacity to chase the horizon. From the cobbled streets of Europe to the untamed plains of Africa, through the spiritual chaos of India and the lush jungles of Southeast Asia, across the Outback in Australia, and finally north to south through the Americas, landing in Ushuaia. By September 2010, we\u2019d done it.<\/p>\n But what do you do when a dream ends? You find another.<\/p>\n After three months back in Greece, we traded the adrenaline of the road for the raw serenity of Tanzania, working at the Saadani River Lodge. Bush life had its charms, but destiny had other plans. Voula got pregnant, and within 15 months, we went from the African wilds to Reggio Emilia, Italy, where Anastasia was born in 2012. Life had flipped us upside down three times in less than two years.<\/p>\n Fast forward six years in Italy, a stretch of time spent working, dreaming, and quietly planning our next escape. On May 1st, 2018, we kissed our house goodbye once again and hit the road in our Iveco VM90 camper, christened Karibuni Safari<\/em>.<\/p>\n The Mediterranean coast called us first\u2014months of winding through sun-drenched roads and ancient ruins. By September 2019, we were deep in the Balkans. December carried us further east into Turkey and the Stans of Central Asia. But then March 2020 hit, and like the rest of the world, we hit a wall called Covid-19. Borders slammed shut, and the universe forced us back to Greece, where we endured quarantine, lockdowns, and the unfamiliar weight of stillness.<\/p>\n By June 2020, the restrictions eased, and we hit the Greek highways, savoring the freedom of home soil. July came, and Europe reopened. The Balkans welcomed us again, then the Baltic countries, and eventually Scandinavia. By mid-October, we were standing at North Cape, Norway, under snow-laden skies, bracing ourselves for our first Arctic winter\u2014a surreal cocktail of polar nights, sub-zero chills, and the kind of silence only found at the edge of the world.<\/p>\n We ended up spending nine months in Scandinavia. It was the coldest, darkest, and most unforgettable winter of our lives. By the time 2021 drew to a close, we had wrapped up the European leg of our journey. When North America reopened its borders late that year, we booked a spot for our vehicle on a commercial ship and crossed the Atlantic.<\/p>\n The year 2022 began in the United States, where we spent six months driving coast-to-coast, from the East to the West, before entering Baja California, Mexico. What followed was five remarkable months in a country that had already stolen our hearts, and then five more exploring the rest of Central America.<\/p>\n By the summer of 2023, we arrived in Colombia, marking the start of a breathtaking journey through the Andes, the Atacama Desert, and Patagonia, all the way to the southernmost tip of the world\u2014Tierra del Fuego. Summer 2024 found us bidding farewell to Argentina after five months and crossing into Brazil.<\/p>\n For the first time, our family parted ways there. Voula and Anastasia flew back to Greece in June, while Akis stayed behind for two more months to get the Iveco to Montevideo, where it was loaded onto a ship bound for Europe.<\/p>\n Now, the three of us are back in our homeland, Thessaloniki.
